Book yourself a FREE Taster Session
Studying for a degree is quite different from studying at school or college, so before you pick your degree course, why not sample what studying that topic would be like by coming along for one of our taster days?
These days are an excellent way to experience degree level study, to introduce yourself to the academic skills required, and to understand the different study methods involved. As an added plus we ensure that the topics covered are ones that will tie in to your A Level studies, giving your revision an additional boost.
Inside and outside of the classroom
At university you will typically find that each topic within your studies is broken down into a series of lectures and seminars; the lecture introducing you to the topic and the seminar giving you the opportunity to discuss the topic amongst your peers under the guidance of a tutor. Our taster days take a similar approach. You’ll be given a lecture and later explore aspects during our fun, interactive seminar sessions.
In all taster days, you’ll also be able to spend time outside the classroom talking to our lecturers about the subject you are interested in studying, plus you’ll be able to spend time with our student ambassadors, finding out what life is like for someone studying the degree that you want to do. Adding this to your personal statement shows that you have put a lot of thought into making your course choices which is something that Admissions Tutors look for when making university offers.
Business Studies Taster Day
After your initial welcome and introduction, you will be given a lecture on a key aspect of the course, and later work in smaller groups to put these skills and understanding into practise. Our last session focused on marketing, and looked at the key aspects of marketing, applying them in an apprentice-style challenge where groups had to create and market their own cereal product through an initial sales pitch and a recorded advert. Groups then presented these to each other and a panel before a winning group was chosen.
Law Taster Day
In our last session, students had interactive lectures on the law of contract. Our tutors gave the students a real world scenario, examining aspects of the law of contract to decide the legal answer to a hypothetical case; if an owner of a lost dog claims on a poster they will pay £100 for the return of their dog, do they still have to pay this if they later change their mind about giving the reward? Helping students to broaden analytical skills, the revision session helped students understand more about the law of contract and find out the legal answer for the case above!
